I saw you/never saw you coming. Your long legs/lean gazelle steps lifted you clean over my defenses. You tamed me/I tamed you by going absolutely wild. We touched upon a wild place, this animal place in the spiral of our DNA/of our behaviour/ of ourselves coiled at the precipice. I always wanted a quick death but you make me risk a slow one. Risk the most excruciating one. Drawn out over the coals/ over the water like a sea bird that never touches land except at the start and at the close/ the feeding ground/ the mating ground/the dance at the ends of the Earth where seeds and babies come from. Where we lay down to die with an acceptable number of regrets/of broken promises. An acceptable life to leave behind. I'm out over the Arctic ocean lifted by the coalescence of all the planetary forces. Lifted by a confluence of physics that breaks all the rules. An earthquake and a current/ a snowdrift and a Siberian forest fire/ a starling's cry/an insect sigh/ a bubble crushed in the deep that balloons into an iceberg calving/ an eruptive event at the end of the world/of time/of Pi. Trusting the raw math of life to lift/ to carry us toward each other, onward and upward, invisible to the naked eye.
